Competency system Print E-mail

There are several definitions in the literature that explain what competency is. We created our own definition, striving for simplicity. We say that all abilities, personality traits, experiences, knowledge and motivation that manifest themselves in every specific elements of the human behavior is competency.
In the context of an organization competency is a list of  behavioral segments reflecting knowledge, skills, willpower and motivation/energy to act, which has the biggest impact on the success of the organisation.
Using this definition you will be able to define the expected competencies that  support an ideal operation, and you can compare it with the existing competencies of your employees.

Competency is becoming a key concept in the field of HR management, due to the fact that this concept allows organizations to align all HR processes in the same logic: the recruitment,  the job profile, the performance appraisal, the training and development, the career management and change management are all based on the same competency system.

The competency analysis is the process in which you define all the competencies needed for the organizational success. Practically you have to identify the behavioral elements that result in excellent performance. When creating the company core competencies, you will observe the competencies of your associates and you will see what you have to improve.

What is the competency good for?

  • It provides the same systematic approach to all HR processes.
  • It helps create a recruiting method that fits the company strategy
  • It assures that the performance appraisal uses the same criteria in every department of  the whole organization.
  • The development goals will be align with the strategy.
  • It enables assignee jobs to specific employees, that define the speed and flexibility of adopting change and so the success of the organization.
  • Identifying competencies that need to be developed becomes easy.
  • It enhances not only the professionalism but commitment, taking responsibility, following the given procedures and techniques and applying expected behavioral patterns.
