Career management means a conscious investment into the human capital.
The "wise" organizations that invest time, money and effort into their talented employees have a good reason to do so, because all the skills and knowledge acquired during such a careeer project will be returned in the business success of the company.

Goals of the career management

  • The traditional role of a career management program is to staff the organization - to fill its positions with employees who have interests, abilities and skills.
  • To have replacement for top managerial positions if needed
  • Ensuring that the employees' long-run interest's are protected by the organization and employees are encouraged to improve and realize his/her full potential.

However, taking part in a career program doesn't guarantee a top managerial position. It means to build up a culture that values knowledge and development, cares for talented employees and institutionalize processes to assure that development.

A career management program contains different building blocks. It could be different in every organization.
